Amtgard Names

Its kind of funny that he should bring it up at this particular point, but

the Artist formerly known as Qdink (pronounced quink, incidentally) is

right that Amtgard names can have additional meaning.



Some examples:



Ivar - "a great distance", as in I will kick your butt ivar if you cause me

any trouble



Squeak -"a high whistle caused by her hitting you in the solar plexus"



Otto - a synonym for "should", I otto get off of my ass and find a job.



Kayrana - an Algerian dish made from couscous and lamb



Blackangel - a sign that affirmative action is making strides across the board



Topknot - among sailors in nineteenth century England, a challenge to outdo

one another



Dragos - to bore or slow down a party



Axgar - the act of ritually cutting up fish



D'alle- 1)  to spend excessive amounts of time in a lady's

chamber, 2)  a small but excessively hard nut with a woody flavor



Ashki - the Celtic ritual of rubbing charcoal and owl grease on a man

before lobbing him off a cliff to appease angry sea gods



Tank Girl - a drunken attempt to express appreciation to an exotic dancer

as one stumbles into the parking lot of a bar 



Roger - to have sex



Calvin - to stop having sex



Mithrandir -   To yearn for a long missing team of sleigh

deer (preferrably caribou or reindeer)



Phocion - 1)  A light sauce of dill and cream served over roasted

quail or other game bird, 2)  roughly cooresponds to the slang

"Right On!"



Savaen - 1) to have a great deal of inside information, 2) a

healing aromatic balm closely related to Myrrh



Shendo - an East Asian martial art popular as a fad in Kyoto between 1328

and 1333, no longer practiced.



Spirit - 1) What Bolt yells to the rest of the Claw Pike unit, 2) a spunky

apparition, 3) What a pep squad generates



Tristan - 1) a location used for an illicit sexual rendevous, 2) to have

one's chest collapsed



Dirk - Hungarian for Dink
